April 30th, 2009BooksRemember Stephenie Meyer’s version of how she came up with the idea for Twilight? Here’s a refresher:
In my dream, two people were having an intense conversation in a meadow in the woods. One of these people was just your average girl. The other person was fantastically beautiful, sparkly, and a vampire. They were discussing the difficulties inherent in the facts that A) they were falling in love with each other while B) the vampire was particularly attracted to the scent of her blood, and was having a difficult time restraining himself from killing her immediately.
After I finished the Twilight series Megan lent me Dead Until Dark. The first chapter in has the vampire-human love story, telepathy without being able to read the love interest’s mind, then later in the book you have shape shifters (that turn at the full moon) and the alternate love interest that is probably a better match. It’s the adult version of Twilight.
Dead Until Dark came out in 2001, Twilight in 2005. Dead Until Dark has also been made into an HBO show called True Blood which just cast Evan Rachel Wood for the part of some southern vampire.
It’s hard to read Dead Until Dark if you’ve read Twilight. They’re very similar. However, if you’re still thirsty for more vampire magic, you’ll want to check out the series.
Stacey: See, THIS is why I hate Stephanie Meyer. Because she is so full of herself to think that she wouldn’t get caught ripping off another book. This woman drives me bananas! That whole “dream” story was enough to make me throw up in my mouth.
With that being said, I love Twilight. I hate myself for it, but I do. I could just do with out the whole Stephanie-Meyer-being-a-twat thing.
