Anne Hathaway stepped out today looking like… looking like she raided my great grandpa’s closet. There’s some old-man loafers, a granny square sweater that my great-grandmother made him for Christmas one year and those pants that – well, I don’t understand the pants either. Loose in the leg but tight on the shin. Hopefully not the next fashion trend.Any one of these pieces would be questionable on their own. And together they are an utter disaster.
Stacey: Oh. No….just…nooo.

I’m pretty sure whoever designed this outfit (I’m looking at you Dior) did not intend for all these pieces to be worn together. No one can pull off that much blue. Maybe do the blue velvet suit with a lighter coloured blouse or cami underneath, but not this. It’s insulting to my eyes to have to look at it. Which I guess means that I’ve just insulted all of you. So there. We haven’t seen a lot of Jessica Biel lately. Do you think that her and Justin Timberlake splitting is going to kill her career or is it safer to say that it was dead already?
Stacey: I think I have seen Prince wear this exact outfit, but in purple.
And yes, it has killed her “career”. As big a douche as I think he is, he has the golden touch, and everything he surrounds himself with turns to gold. Being his girlfriend was her only remaining link to stardom.

When you live in a climate where it tends to snow 10 months of the year and occasionally drops to -30C for a week or two you will concede a fashionable winter jacket for one that means you’re not going to freeze to death. Long puffy down jackets are some of the warmest winter jackets because they keep your ass and thighs from freezing but they ALWAYS make people look awful as shown by Debra Messing above.I would actually like a long down jacket for the winter but they all look like this on me so it’s not happening.
Stacey: They DO make people look awful. But whats worse? Looking awful or freezing to death? Sometimes comfort must trump style.

Kanye West and Liv Tyler showed up to a fashion event in Paris wearing the same ugly t-shirt. I’m not sure who this is more embarrassing for.Awkwardly enough, Kanye West and someone else showed up to Paris Fashion week last week wearing the same red leather outfit as well. Think Kanye’s fashion is catching on or does he deserve any fashion influence credit at all?

I like pantsuits. Done correctly they can look pretty hot (so can overalls) but that doesn’t mean that I wear them. Not many people do. This is probably because it doesn’t take much to look like total crap in a pantsuit, like Katie Holmes is showing us above. Katie Holmes has a pretty tight body and theoretically should be able to rock the pantsuit, but she is failing. Partly it has to do with the fabric. This is the same fabric that Brooklyn Decker’s unfortunate pantsuit was also made out of. This fabric tends to cling to the boobs and crotch, get unflattering wrinkles, makes your crotch-to-waist area look way longer than it should and generally just draws attention to areas that you probably don’t want attention drawn to.Padma Lakshmi wore a similar pantsuit awhile back and it wasn’t so bad. What the difference? Clinging fabric and accessories. Padma brought the attention back up to her long slim neck, instead of the bunching around the crotch and hips and it worked well for her.
Alicia Keys in a pantsuit? It’s totally 70s and it rocks.
Gwen Stefani in a pantsuit? She totally owns it, makes it her own style and rocks it.
Katie Holmes in a pantsuit? Fail.
Stacey: It is hard to make a pant suit look good. It has to be the right everything in order to work. I could never wear one. But why do these stars insist on wearing bad ones? They have the access to good ones…why wear something that makes you look like you are wearing a sack tied around your body in awkward places?

I’m just speculating here, but after she showed up at the Grammy awards last night in yet another good dress I have come to the conclusion that Nicole Kidman has hired a new stylist. Last week she said that Sunday likes to dress her so maybe I should give credit to Nicole Kidman’s daughter for having better taste than she does.I could do without the mermaid flair on this dress, but the colours and the cute are really working for Nicole. It makes me so happy to see her dressing great and looking hot again.

Did you see those pants? The skin tight silver jeggings tucked into the boots? Those pants are super gay, and even though Ricky Martin is too, these pants are too gay for even him.Stacey: No, not too gay, just too ugly. Ricky is normally so well dressed…these just don’t look good.

January 26th, 2011Random Scent“I actually don’t own a pair of jeans. This is an odd confession but I realized when I was into building our family, that if I had jeans and t-shirts in my wardrobe, it’s what I would end up wearing all the time with so many children.
“So I had to kind of not have them, to force myself to not fall into that every day.”
Whatever. Jennifer Garner wears jeans all the time and she almost always looks great. I think the real reason is that Angelina Jolie is too skinny to fill out a pair of jeans and they probably all give her pancake ass. Zing!
Stacey: See, its asinine comments like this that have put Angie on my list of celebs that make me face-punching angry. Even as I was reading this I could feel my blood boiling and my fists clenching. So angry!

As much as we love/hate on people for what they wore at events, I totally agree with Helena Bonham Carter on this one:“I am not Hannibal Lecter wearing someone else’s skin. Why does it matter? I make do with what is in my wardrobe. I think one should but I receive comments that that’s not good enough. I think one can wear the same thing, in this day and age especially. There are too many awards, no other profession gets so many. There are millions of people who deserve awards. That’s what I have a problem with and the fact it’s now hijacked by the fashion industry – it’s all what you wear,” she said.
I agree that there are too many awards and that the whole thing has been hijacked by the fashion industry. I also agree that she should be able to make due with what she has in her closet (like Christian Bale) instead of buying a new dress every time (but let us be honest here, most of those dresses are on loan from the designers because this is how you get your name out there as a designer).
However, even if you’re working with what you’ve got you can still make it look put together. You can brush your hair for instance. Or wear the clean shoes instead of the dirty ones. And I don’t watch every single outfit that she wears to events, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen her re-wear a dress. Most times it looks like she had her outfits custom tailored for that event for her specific “style” which might be even more wasteful and indulgent than the size 00 girls who borrow an Alexander McQueen dress for the night and return it tomorrow.
I get what Helena Bonham Carter is saying, and I totally agree with it, but I don’t think she’s as on-board with it as she says.
What I would really like in exchange for fashion at awards shows is to get all the good smut instead – who was flirting with who, who was puking at the after party, who was pissed that they didn’t win, etc. But that will never happen. If anything, most celebs probably like that the focus is on the fashion so they don’t have to talk about themselves too much.
Stacey: Ya, I think that what she is saying is great in theory but I don’t think she is adhering to it. Clearly the stuff she wears is designed specifically for her. Its not like she is finding that stuff at a thrift store. And more over, the get-up she wore at the Globes required 2 of the exact same shoe but in different color…to me that seems that 2, perfectly good shoes are being left somewhere, unused. If that is not wasteful, then I don’t know what is. Maybe she donates all these crazy creations to good will afterwards?

Katie Holmes isn’t my fashion inspiration. In fact, it is so rare that I like her style that I usually end up giving her a special post as a pat-on-the-back for not making herself look frumpy (check it out). But this is a cardigan that I can give her props for. It’s perfect for her body type, perfect for her age, and makes her look so young, cute and fresh. I’d like to give her props for throwing this together, but she’s on set of the Adam Sandler film Jack & Jill so it’s probably wardrobe for the movie. So props instead go to the wardrobe crew for making Katie Holmes look good.
Stacey: Ya, this is really cute, but it is for a movie so of course it is styled properly. It is super super cute though. Too bad she can’t look like this normally.
