It’s kind of ridiculous to speculate why Johnny Depp finally decided to get a hair cut but I have a feeling that it’s because he’s sick of being told that he and John Mayer look alike. If I was told that I’d change my appearance too.

Stacey: Maybe because he didn’t need it long for Pirates anymore?  Either way, I’d still do him.

Stacey might not agree with me because she lives Johnny Depp AND John Mayer, but I think when people start mistaking you for either of them it is time for a new look.

Happy, smiley people make other people feel good which probably leads to a positive association of feelings with whatever they’re trying to promote. If these photos were promoting a different movie than the ones they did earlier, I’d go see this movie over the other one because it looks like they actually enjoyed themselves.

Stacey: OMG.  I super hate this dress.  But she looks amazing.  When The Jolie turns it on, no one can resist.  How can you not look at that face?

I love Johnny’s suit.  Although, I also love his pirate look.

I still don’t want to see this movie though.

Is Angie at the point where I can no longer suspend my belief to watch her in a movie and not be acutely aware that I am watching her and not the character?  I think, yes, maybe.

Josh Duhamel and Katie Holmes announced the nominees

The Golden Globe nominees were announced today and most of it is what you’d except except for this:

Burlesque is a musical but were any of the others comedies or musicals?? I think Red was an action movie, the Tourist I thought was a drama, and Alice in Wonderland… I don’t even know what to call that one. I definitely wouldn’t call it “Best Picture”.

Here’s the rest of the nominations that people actually care about. See that Johnny Depp is nominated twice for Best Actor: Musical or Comedy? I personally didn’t think his performance in Alice in Wonderland was that great, but maybe he’ll get it for the Tourist?

Stacey: I love love love that Justin Timberlake has not, so far, been rewarded for his behavior of trying to beg his way into getting a nomination for anything.  If any awards show would give him a nod, it would be the Globes.  But they didn’t so….bazinga!

And PS.  I totally can’t look at Katie Holmes without seeing Anne Hathaway’s bang on impression of her. 

Oh.  Double PS.  I love the girl who does the impression of Miley Cyrus.  It’s awesome.

The Tourist was #2 at the box office over the weekend which I think is pretty good but people are dumping all over it saying how it’s a complete and total failure. Whatever, it went up against a children’s movie that was released in 3D. Children’s movies = big box office numbers and 3D movies charge more so they generally bring in more money.

That said, The Tourist looks like it sucks. Has anyone seen it yet? How is it?

Stacey: Well, concidering the trailers I have seen for this were the sh*tz, I can’t imagine the movie is very good.  Also concidering this movie just got nominated for a Golden Globe, in the category of Comedy or Musical, I don’t think that bodes very well for it either.

I just don’t buy these two together and I can’t imagine them having much chemistry.

Tanya, I don’t understand why you always think Johnny Depp dresses like he doesn’t care.  Lets assume that this is a created persona, as you have previously stated.   The fact that he attempts to uphold this persona shows that he does indeed care.  Whether or not you like Johnny Depp doesn’t mean that other people also do not.  In fact, he is adored for the image that is put out there, real or created.  By dressing like this, he is definitely pandering to his fan base, because those are the ones that will (or won’t according to the performance of this movie) pay to see him.  I imagine that every single aspect of this outfit is thought out, much like Helena Bonham Carter or to the other end, someone like Zac Efron who plans every fold in his shirt and every wisp or his bangs.  While it may be reflective of her true personality, it is definitely amplifying it in order to make it more interesting.  Famous and “artistic” people have the luxury of being allowed to be more eccentric but perhaps they also create stranger versions of themselves in order to keep the real “them” for themselves and away from the public.

Just a thought.

Side note…I like the Jolie’s shoes.

Tanya: Oh no. I’m sure Johnny Depp put a LOT of thought into what he was wearing and I have no doubt that he carefully selected the bandana that is hanging out of his pocket and adjusted it’s length several times to get it “just right”. However, if Depp wants to sell this movie he needs to sex it up a bit. Put on a nice suit (almost all guys look hot in suits) and turn on the charm for the cameras. All these layers and accessories make it look as if he’s trying to hide from the attention and keep distance between himself and everything else. If he wants to sell this movie he needs to sell himself a bit too. It’s part of the game.

I also don’t buy that these two have any chemistry, but again that could be due to the awkwardness and avoidance that they’ve shown each other in the promotion of this movie. If I thought there might be some sort of allure, some sort of spark between them I might be more inclined to see this but I understand why they’re so hesitant to even stand next to one another at the premieres – people speculate. And both Angie and Johnny don’t want any more attention than they already get. This may be one of the few cases where the celebs are willing to sacrifice the box office numbers to maintain some sort of respect for their personal lives.

And for the record I DO like Johnny Depp. I just don’t like that this overly layered, withdrawn and almost fearful (I get a fear vibe from him) Johnny Depp is always toted as being the “sexiest” Johnny Depp. Also for the record I was hoping that The Tourist would do really, really well so that Johnny Depp would start to be in a wider variety of movies and not just ones directed by Tim Burton also starring Helena Bonham Carter. After awhile they all start to blur together and the characters could be pretty much interchangeable. Picture either the Mad Hatter or Willy Wonka as Sweeny Todd – you totally can, can’t you? I can.

Angelina Jolie thinks Johnny Depp’s hot, hot, hot – but his smelly cigarette breath is not, not, NOT! Chain-smoker Depp admitted to pals that while they were filming The Tourist, Jolie made him chug-a-lug Listerine AND pop breath mints before all romantic scenes.

“I hate it, but I wanted to keep her happy,” said Depp, groaning that Jolie, who hates smoking and won’t allow it in front of her kids, even insisted he munch mints when he dined socially with her and Brad Pitt. (from the National Enquirer print edition via Celebitchy)

Translation: Angelina Jolie thinks Johnny Depp is stinky!!

But Brad Pitt totally smokes. Do you think she “insists” that Brad “munch on mints” when they go out for dinner or hang around the house? I doubt it. Double standards in kissing? Probably. Kissing someone you love who stinks is gross but doable. Kissing someone you barely know who stinks sounds pretty stomach turning.

I doubt this story. If anything, Johnny Depp probably took the initiative on the mints. If I were a smoker and had to make out with a non-smoking stranger I’d do the same.

Stacey: Mmmmm.  Ashtray make out session.  Yummy.

For the record, I would make out with Johnny Depp if he tasted like an ashtray.  And I wouldn’t care how it tasted.  Its Johnny Depp, people!

Johnny Depp is on the front of Vanity Fair this month and also is interviewed (Excerpts here).

I know we don’t always agree on his hotness, Tan, but he is forever and always one of my all time favorites.  They just don’t make stars like this anymore.  Read the excepts of the interview.  They kill me.

“I was always fascinated by people who are considered completely normal, because I find them the weirdest of all.”

Please.  He absolutely kills me.  So incredibly quirky.  And I love the pictures because he is just so gorgeous.  That face.  Those eyes.  I will admit, I was worried after seeing the pictures from the set of The Tourist as well as the trailer.  But he seems to have lost the bloat (maybe it was for the role?) and is back to bringing the hot again.

No, Johnny’s brand of hot is not the same as some of the young dudes out there but Johnny has that special something; you can’t replicate it and it is the type of hotness that only comes from years of experience.  I would take Johnny Depp over any of the young guys out there nowadays.  Any of them!

Johnny Forever.

Tanya: No. Johnny Depp used to be awesome because he was different and quirky, but now it just seems like he is trying too hard. In his “real life” and in his roles. He’s lost all the naturalness of the roles and has become a caricature of himself. It feels like he’s that way in his interviews too – like he has created this persona of a weird, introverted guy so he has to work hard to try and maintain it without showing any sort of genuine Johnny Depp. Like he’s so concerned with keeping his privacy that he’s crated another character to play when he’s out in public.

Stacey:  Tanya.  I don’t think we have ever disagreed more.

Update: Penelope Cruz & Javier Bardem have confirmed that Penelope is 4 1/2 months pregnant.

Penelope Cruz and Johnny Depp are filming Pirates of the Caribbean right now and since I’m not calling out people who look to be pregnant anymore (see: Jennifer Garner) I’m left wondering – is Penelope Cruz supposed to be extra chunky in the new movie? Usually love interests are of the extra lean variety so props to the Pirates crew if this is intentional.

Stacey: I find this a little strange.  If she is in fact pregnant, how are they going to write that into the story?  Or will it be like on sitcoms where every time she is in a shot she will have something in front of her belly to hide it.  Or maybe she is supposed to pregnant in the movie and not actually in real life?

Lifetime hot piece Johnny Depp is turning 47 today.  47!  Can you believe it?  I think that I have been in love with him for half of his life (and all of mine).

While he is getting up there, he still totally melts my heart.  Its the eyes.  And the lips.  And they style.  Its everything really.
