December 14th, 2009KarmaInstead of spending money at the bar on cocaine for her 20th birthday, Taylor Swift donated $250K to public schools around the US that she has been associated with over the years. The money will pay for books, teachers’ salaries and programs.
Props to Taylor Swift for giving back!
Photo is of her last week with some super straight hair. I gotta say I prefer the curls. Maybe because my hair is super straight and I’m jealous of her curly hair. The grass is always greener.

Our local celebs Elisha Cuthbert & Dion Phaneuf spent some time at the Ronald McDonald house carving pumpkins with kids like Honza Crema (above) who are living in the RM house while their siblings are getting treatment at the Children’s Hospital. A good story to kick of Halloween weekend!Stacey: Awww, this is sweet. On the Fan 960 the other day they were talking about how the Flames were doing interviews but all of them were most excited to go to the Ronald McDonald house to see the kids. It must really be a cool experience. FOr both the kids and the players. Love to see them giving back to the community.
Happy Halloween!

Even though Beyonce launched her American tour Sunday night and probably worked until the wee hours of the morning, she still got out yesterday to help a good cause. And she looked radiant doing it.Here’s Beyonce at the national “Show Your Helping Hand” hunger relief initiative kickoff at Madison Square Garden in NYC.
Stacey: Beyonce > Sasha Fierce. She is so beautiful when she is more natural.

Angelina Jolie is a UN Ambassador and she actually pulls through and does her part. Today she was at the UNHCR’s commemoration of World Refugee Day at the National Geographic Society. While she was there she handed out awards to winners of the National Geographic poster contest.Yesterday her and Brad Pitt donated $1M to help refugees fleeing the Taliban in Pakistan.
Stacey, I can hear you rolling your eyes, but you can’t deny that they are doing important things to raise money and awareness for causes around the world. You may call Angelina Jolie self-righteous, but I call her a humanitarian.
Their efforts make me want to put them on my favourites list.
Stacey: I don’t have anything nice to say so I won’t say anything at all. I will let the sound of my eyes rolling do the speaking for me.

Jada, Trey, Jaden, Willow, Will & Charlize Theron
Will Smith was recognised today for his work off screen and was presented with a humanitarian award. Will is a big believer in giving back to the community: “When I started making music back in Philly at 12 years old there was always a big thing in my family; that whatever you do, first off you have to serve God. And if you serve god properly then you can serve your community”.
Will’s wife Jada is proud of her man saying “Will often gets honoured for the great talent he is, and it’s just fantastic to see him being honoured for the great man that he is”.

Parkinson's Sucks
Want to walk the red carpet with Ryan Reynolds, support a good cause and not be a home wrecker? Now you can!
Ryan and Team Fox are auctioning off tickets for “The Proposal” and “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” premieres in Hollywood to raise money for Michael J. Fox’s Parkinson’s Disease charity. The highest bidder gets to walk the carpet with Reynold, check out a flick for free, and get bragging rights at the office for the next forever.
Want to help fight Parkinson’s? You can get more info on the event here.
Stacey: When I was younger, like REALLY younger, I used to watch Teen Wolf over and over again. I was in love with Michael J Fox. He is so awesome. I love him even today.

What? You don't wear heels to yoga?
This Saturday I’ll be taking part in “108 Sun Salutations” with Yoga Santosha to help raise money for Jamie’s Pre-School. Jamie’s Pre-School is a school here in Calgary where children aged 3-6 who have cancer and other immuno compromising diseases, and their siblings, can go to safely. Going to school for the first time can be pretty scary as you learn the ins and outs of “fitting in”, I can’t even imagine what it would be like for kids with serious illnesses who may need special treatments throughout the day or have to miss several days to be in the hospital.
When I was in preschool I wouldn’t even wear a band-aid because I thought the other kids would see it. That’s nothing compared to being bald because of chemo.
I’m a healthy young lass and if I can use something I take forgranted (such as the ability to do a pushup) to help out these kids then why not? Hopefully it will help take some of the stress out of school for them.
If you’d like to join me or sponsor me please leave a comment with your name and email address (I won’t post those) and I’ll be in touch with you.
Thanks!
Tanya
